OC girl to get Girl Scout Gold Award

Jennifer Flannigan An Oil City girl has earned the highest recognition for achievement in Girl Scouting.

Jennifer Elizabeth Flannigan, the daughter of Daniel and Karen Flannigan of 595 Bankson Road, will be presented the Gold Award in May by the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania. The celebration honoring Flannigan will be held in Clarion.

Flannigan's Gold Award project began last summer and was completed after hundreds of hours in the fall. As one of her many tasks, she created 12 birdhouses for Oil Creek State Park.

Flannigan was assisted in her efforts by Oil Creek park manager Jake Weiland, who helped her understand the importance of nature and how to improve the quality of wildlife in its natural habitat.

Flannigan has been involved with Girl Scouting for 10 years, and she is a member of Troop 311. Her Scout leader for the past 10 years has been Kammi Stralko.

Flannigan is a senior at Venango Catholic High School, and she plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh in the fall.

She has been an alter server at St. Stephen Church in Oil City.

Flannigan's brother, Zachary, received his Boy Scout Eagle Scout award in 2000.
