19 receive diplomas at Venango Catholic graduation

Rachel Jones (from left), Nicholas Fink, Mercedes Hoeft, Marissa Hanely were among those who received awards at the VC graduation ceremony Sunday. Nineteen seniors received their diplomas Sunday during commencement exercises for the Venango Catholic High School Class of 2010.

The guest speaker was the Rev. Nicholas Rouch, the vicar of education for the Erie Catholic Diocese. Class valedictorian Anthony Spadaro and salutatorian Nicholas Fink also addressed their fellow graduates.

Spencer Smith performed the prelude and processional, Zach Broniszewski, co-president of the senior class, led the Pledge of Allegiance, and student council president Mercedes Hoeft delivered the invocation.

School board president Bonnie Zacherl welcomed the students and their families, VC headmaster Rev. John Malthaner presented the graduates, and school board members presented the diplomas to the graduates.

Those in attendance sang the National Anthem and the VC alma mater, Malthaner delivered the benediction, and Smith performed the recessional.

The following awards were given to the graduates by academic dean Brian Slider.

Eucharistic Minister Service Award — Elliot Donze, Nicholas Fink, Samuel Fink, Jennifer Flannigan, Jessica Gabler, Marissa Hanely, Mercedes Hoeft, Paige Kleinfelder, Andrew Lutz and Richard Mulholland

American Legion Award for Citizenship — Mercedes Hoeft and Zachary Broniszewski

Campus Ministry "Faith in Action" Award — Marissa Hanley

"We Like You, We Respect You, We Admire You" Award — Rachel Jones and Nicholas Fink

Unsung Hero Award — Paige Kleinfelder and Riley Mason

Father Weibel Scholar-Athlete Award — Nicholas Fink

Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference Scholarship — Nicholas Fink

Headmaster's Award for Leadership — Mercedes Hoeft

Headmaster's Award — Jessica Gabler and Nicholas Fink

Bishop's Award for Excellence — Mercedes Hoeft
