Hawkins takes top spot in tournament
SHARON — Garrett Hawkins, who will be a senior at Venango Catholic High School, won the Tam O’Shanter Junior Golf Tournament on Thursday at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course.
Hawkins, competing the 17-18 age division, shot a 75 to tie with Bradley Thornton of New Castle in regulation play. Hawkins won on the first playoff hole.
Hawkins was coming off a seventh-place finish on Tuesday in the Western Pennsylvania Player of the Year Championship for the 17-18 age division at Mystic Rock Golf Course in Nemocolin Woodlands.
Ryan Mazza of Pittsburgh won the tournament with a score of 73 while Hawkins shot a 78.
Hawkins qualified by winning a tournament at The Country Club in Meadville in July.
