VC graduate returns from Iraq deployment

Herbert L. Karg

Army Reserve 1st Lt. Herbert L. Karg, a graduate of Venango Catholic High School, has returned to the U.S. after a deployment to Iraq.

He returned to Joint Base Dix-McGuire- Lakehurst, N.J., for debriefing, evaluations and out-processing procedures before returning to his regularly assigned Army Reserve unit.

During his deployment, Karg was decorated with the Army Commendation Medal.

Karg was transferred in May 2009 from the 542nd Quartermaster Co. to the 716th Quartermaster Co., a Reserve unit out of Jersey City, N.J.

He served as the executive officer for that unit during the deployment to Balad, Iraq, from last Nov. 27 to July 27.

Karg has served in the military for five years. He now serves as the contracting officer for the 542nd Quartermaster Co.

He is the son of Daniel J. and Martha K. Karg of Rockland Cranberry Road, Kennerdell.

The lieutenant graduated in 2003 from Venango Catholic and received a bachelor's degree in 2007 from Gannon University.
