John Carroll honors former Viking Lutz

Megan Lutz

Megan Lutz, a former standout at Venango Catholic High School, was honored at a luncheon hosted by the John Carroll University board of directors as the captain of the most successful women's cross country team in school history.

Lutz and her teammates posted the highest finishes ever by the Blue Streaks at five of their seven meets this year, including a third-place finish in the college division at the prestigious National Catholic Championships hosted by the University of Notre Dame.

John Carroll also had a third-place finish among NCAA Division III schools at the All-Ohio Championships, a runner-up finish at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships and a sixth-place showing at the Great Lakes Regional Championships, where they narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA D-III national championships.

Lutz had her share of individual success, too, emerging as one of the most talented runners in the conference, both athletically and academically. She ran her way to new personal-best times at both the 5K and 6K distances and was named the Ohio Athletic Conference scholar athlete of the month in September, earned all-conference honors and was voted "runner of the week" twice by her teammates during the season.

Lutz and her teammates will now transition to the upcoming track and field season, set to begin Jan. 21, where they will look to build on their cross country accomplishments.
